--The City of Redwood Falls has a population of approximately of 5,500 people. The mayor is Gary Revier.
--The Redwood Falls Company, Farmers Union Industries L-L-C recently became the owner of Artex agriculture equipment; they specialize in silage and manure handling equipment. Artex will be manufactured in Redwood falls, ten new jobs are expected to be created by the new business.
--Redwood Falls resident Bruce Tiffany was selected for the Minnesota Agriculture and Rural Leadership Program, the program is also known as MARL.
--The Redwood Falls National Guard Armory under went a $2-million renovation project this past fall. The renovation included new windows, central air, painting, and other general fixing up.
--This past year Redwood Valley high school students Mitch Petersen and Laura Houghton took fourth in the Duo Interpretation at the Class A state speech competition.
--The 51st annual Minnesota Inventors Congress took place in Redwood Falls this year. Residents Gail Castor and Lee Davis both won medals for their inventions, Davis won a gold medal and Castor won a bronze.
--Jaime Hanson of Comfrey was crowned the 2008-2009 Redwood Area Beef Princess. Jaimes’ sister Jody was the 2007-2008 Redwood Beef Princess. Their parents are Jim and Jeri Hanson.
--Last May the Redwood Area Chamber and Tourism Board hired a new executive director, Jean Hallberg.
--The Redwood Falls City Council hired Jim Doering as the new Public Works Coordinator. Doering was the Redwood Cottonwood Rivers Control Area Executive before taking the new job.
--Redwood Area Chamber and tourism held its annual meeting; four people were presented new awards this past year. Chamber Board member Rick Ellingworth presented the awards. He says that all four are very deserving. The Hidden Gem award went to Dick Gewerth and Cyndi Wittwer, Eric Johnson was presented the Rising Star award, and Nathan Stephens received the Shining Star Award.
--The Redwood Falls Fire Department named Mark Magers as the new chief. Mager has been with the department for almost 19 years, 8 years as the Assistant Fire Chief.
--The Redwood Area School District sent four students to the National Academic Challenge, which took place in Chicago. Julianna Passe, Dan Perry, Brian Anderson, and Prince Ovre advanced to the national tournament by defeating the defending champions Morris.
--The Redwood Falls City Council approved bids for a new Redwood Falls Family Aquatic Center this past August. The total project is estimated to cost approximately $3.8-million. They started construction of the new center this past September
--Two businesses were on the popular TV show “Extreme Makeover”; the show was working on a home in the Albert Lea area. The designers for the show were in A-and-W selecting furniture for the show and Northwest Drywall hung all the drywall for the houses as well.
--The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development awarded Redwood Falls a $250,000 grant that will go towards a new Business Park. The 12-acre site will be designed for light-industry businesses.
--Redwood Falls business Daktronics was selected to Design and Build the New scoreboard for Target Field, which will be the new home for the Minnesota Twins in the year 2010. The scoreboard will be the fourth largest scoreboard in the league and will roughly cost nine million dollars.
--The renovation of the Redwood Falls Area Hospital emergency room area was completed this past year. The renovation updated and improved much of the emergency room; it was part of the $13-million hospital renovation that took place.
--The Redwood Area School Board gave the final go-ahead for the project that will make some changes to Reede Gray Elementary School. The renovation included, a new main entrance, changing the layout of the main office, a new flagpole, and also a new monument sign. The construction should cost $219,000.
--Minnesota West Community and Technical College announced that they will be opening a new learning center in Redwood Falls. It will be in the new county Government center. They plan to start classes there fall 2009.
