--The students at Norwood Young America (Central) high school crowned their homecoming royalty this past fall, Annie Kidrowski was crowned queen and Wes Wilesmsen was crowned king.
--Norwood Young America’s FFA team placed in the top five of the Dairy Evaluation category at the states FFA convention this past April.
--This past March the Norwood Young America city council decided to go ahead with the $329,000 remodeling of the north fire hall. The remodeling was expected to start in late March
--The Norwood Young America city council wanted to build a new south fire station but around one hundred local residents protested the purchasing of the land at a city council meeting back in October.
--Norwood Young America decided to go ahead and construct a new 750-thousand gallon water tower. The tower will be built on the south side of the Tacoma West Industrial Park and is expected to cost around six million dollars.
--The annual Stiftungsfest crowned its 2008 royalty this past august, the queen was Megan Shanahan, Annie Kidrowski was crowned a princess and Miss congeniality, and Mackenzie Wolter was also named a princess.
--The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development recently awarded the city of Norwood Young America a $200,000 grant to redevelop the Oak Grove Dairy. The old building will be split into a senior housing apartment, a city hall, library, sheriff’s office, and also a service center.
--This past December Norwood Young America’s Central School district named Shawn Erickson it’s 2008 teacher of the year. Erickson who is a science teacher at the middle school has been with the district for 13 years.
--Several students at NYA’s Central high school were honored for their musical abilities this past year. Twelfth grader Ryan Lueck participated in the Minnesota All-State band. Tenth grader Ellen Forst was chosen for an Honor Choir. And also twelfth-graders Sarah Boehne, Jordan Sund, and Zach Kayser as well as eleventh graders Matt Qohr and Mike Stanley performed at the Dorian Festival at Luther College in Decorah Iowa. Central High School choir director Kelli Hanson says they are all definitely deserving of recognition.
Eighty-two members of the central high school choir also traveled to New York for a seven-day choir trip this past June.
