Comfrey Day

--The Comfrey School district crowned its 2008 Homecoming Royalty this past September; Michelle Hoek was crowned the Queen and Ryan Wolle was crowned the King.   

 

--The Comfrey Police Department upgraded their technology and purchased $9,000 worth of surveillance equipment this past year.  The Department purchased the surveillance equipment with an equipment grant from the County Drug Task Force.

 

--Michelle Hoek, Ethan Piddle, and Jaime Hanson advanced to the State Business Professionals of America Competition this past year.  Hoek and Piddle competed in Banking and Finance, and Hanson competed in Spreadsheet and Spread Sheet Applications.

 

--The Comfrey times changed owners this past year.  Steve and Becky Christensen purchased the paper from Jim and Terri Meyer who have owned it for the past six months.

 

--The City of Comfrey learned this past year that the Comfrey Wind Energy Group will be constructing 17 wind turbines near Comfrey.  A site has already been approved but construction will not start until later this year.

 

--This past year marked the 45th anniversary of the B-47 plane crash in Comfrey.  The jet bomber was on a training run when it crashed, the four crewmen in the plane were the only deaths in the accident.

 

--Comfrey resident Marianne Schotzko, was named the Garden Club Member of the Year by the Minnesota Horticultural Society this past February.

 

--National History Day named Cedar Mountain High School teacher Ann Litchfield, a “Teacher of Merit” in Minnesota this past year.  She was one of only two teachers to receive the award in Minnesota.

 

--The State’s Department of Education released the results from the MCA-2 standardized that took place this past year.  Comfrey students scored 52-percent in the math portion and 65-percent in the reading.
