– Mayor of Madelia is Jim Petterson and the population of Madelia is approximately 2400.
– A bust of Major General Doyle E. Larson was dedicated at Veterans Memorial Park in Madelia during their 2008 annual Park Days celebration. Larson is a Madelia native who enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 during the Korean War and eventually achieved two-star Major Genral status during his 32-year career. He was inducted into the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame in 2004.
– General Manager of the Madelia Telephone Company Brent Christiansen was appointed to the High Speed Broadband Task force by Governor Pawlenty in 2008.
– Matt Wolle of Madelia was selected to participate in the Minnesota Agriculture and rural Leadership Program, or MARL. MARL Class 5 began meeting in November of 2008 for a series of nine in-state seminars, a six-day national study tour to Washington D-C and a 12-day international study tour.

– 8-year-old Kassandra Lopez, daughter of Jose and Melinda, of Madelia brought home the Dream Girls USA National Little Miss 2008 title after competing against 130 other girls in the
4-to-12-year-old age division.
– 8 students from Madelia High School earned a trip to the National BPA Conference in Reno, Nevada in 2008. Allison Hintz, Ron Larson, Samantha, Bestick, Mike Gasner, Santiago Escobar, Sara Aguilar, and Josh Ardolf earned their spots after taking on over 11-hundred other students from 75 Minnesota high schools in the State BPA Conference in Minneapolis.
– Madelia Women of Today named Madelia High School Senior Allison Wanzek the community’s Outstanding Young Adult for 2008. The 18-year-old daughter of Pat and Denny Wanzek received the award due to her commitment to her school and community.
