−Sibley East Elementary School Carnival5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
The Sibley East Elementary School Carnival is Thursday, May 23, at the Gaylord Campus from 5-7pm. Admission to the carnival is free. There is a large variety of games and a number of delicious food items. A silent auction will be from 12-6:30pm. There is also a grand prize drawing for a IPad Mini.
The funds raised will be used to purchase technology and recess equipment to be in classrooms in both Gaylord and Arlington.

−NCHS Cox House plant sale8:30 am – 2:00 pm
The Nicollet County Historical Society’s annual heritage plant sale to benefit the Cox House will be held on Saturday, 5/25 from 8:30a-2:00p. The event is at the Treaty Site History Center at 1851 N Minnesota Ave in St. Peter.
Locally-grown perennials and bulbs available in the past have included mums, phlox, primrose, ferns, bleeding hearts, daisies, lilies, dahlias, lily of the valley, raspberry canes, rhubarb, coleus, and more.

−Brown County Heartland Express – weekend (all-day)May 26 – May 27
The Brown County Heartland Express will not be operating on Sunday, 5/26 and Monday, 5/27 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular transit service will resume on Tuesday, 5/28.
The transit office will also be closed on Monday, 5/27. To schedule rides for Tuesday, 5/28, patrons need to call the office no later than 3pm on Friday, 5/24 at 359-2717 or 800-707-2717.

On Sunday, May 26, Historian John LaBatte will present a program at 1pm on the causes of the U.S.-Dakota War in 1862. Then at 2:30pm there will be a walking tour of Fort Ridgely. $4 admission, MHS and NCHS members free.

−New Ulm Memorial Day events9:00 am – 10:00 am
The New Ulm Memorial Day Parade on Monday, 5/27 starts at 9am. The parade forms between 5th and 7th South by St. Mary’s and proceeds north on German St. to 5th North and Minnesota.
The observance at the cemetery will begin at 10am. In case of rain, the services will be held at the Civic Center.

−Brown County Outstanding Seniors (all-day)Jun 1
Nominations are now being accepted through the month of June for the Brown County Outstanding Senior Citizen recognition for 2013.
Seniors who have reached the age of 70 by June 1 of this year can be nominated. Recognition will be based largely on how the nominee has touched the lives of other people in their community, the scope of volunteer involvement in various community organizations, as well as the variety, quality and quantity of community service performed after age 65.
Those wishing to make nominations can obtain official forms by contacting their local Senior Citizen Group or Bob Apitz at Brown Co. Family Service, PO Box 788, New Ulm, MN 56073.
