      Fairfax Lawn Mower Days, June 20, 21, 22 & 23

      Many events taking place Thursday through Sunday. Thursday is the Fairfax Royalty Coronation at Squirrel’s Bar and Grill at 7pm.

      Friday – 6pm Kids 1 mile run at Memorial Park; 7pm 5K Fun Run at Memorial Park; 7:30pm Fairfax Cardinals baseball game; 8-9pm Street Dance for Kids; 9pm-1am Street Dance with DJ Juice Belly

      Saturday, 9am Softball Tournament in Lion’s Park; 9am Volleyball Tournament in Lion’s Park; 11am GFW Legion Baseball Tournament in Memorial Park; 1-3pm Fire Department/Kids Water Fight; 6-7:30pm D&S Kids Pedal Pull; 9pm-1am Street Dance, 1st Street SE

      Sunday – 10am Worship Service; 1-5pm open swim at Fairfax pool; 2-4pm polka music at Squirrel’s Bar & Grill; 3pm Bean Bag Tournament in Lion’s Park.

      The Farm-City Hub Club will be hosting “Family Night on the Dairy Farm” Thursday, June 20 at the Steve and Kerry Hoffman farm south of New Ulm from 5-8pm. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Families and daycares are encouraged to attend this event together. Strollers are also welcome. Visitors can bring lawn chairs.

      The evening consists of tours of the Hoffman Dairy Farm, which consists of about 140 Holsteins and Jerseys and housed in a compost bedding-pack barn and milked in a 12-unit swing milking parlor.

      The farm is located south of New Ulm on 140th Avenue. From New Ulm: travel south on Highway 15 at the top of the hill, turn right on County Road 25. Travel for one mile past New Ulm Tractor and Equipment, then turn south of left on 140th Avenue. Drive for 2 miles. Watch for signs.

      The Farm-City Hub Club, along with other organizations, will be serving free dairy treats.

      The Harkin Store is hosting a place of view and do quilting on Saturday, June 22.

      The mixing of terms ‘quilting’ and ‘artistry’ are displayed outside on porches and clotheslines along a four-block area, viewable on your own or by trolly rides along ‘the quilting trail’. Nationally-known designers and local teachers with classes and a morning tea and trunk show are some highlights.

      The Harkin Store is located 9 miles northwest of New Ulm in Nicollet County Road 21 or the bottom road, or 9 miles east of Fort Ridgely.

      2nd Annual Summer Party, Saturday, June 22

      Grillin’ and Chillin’ with Live Outdoor Music. Gates open at 12pm; 4pm The Organic Cowboys; 8pm-12am Everett Smithson Band; free camping on club grounds; no coolers or outside beverages allowed; bring a lawn chair; in case of rain, music will be held indoors; ages 21+; free admission

      Location – from Hwy 15 south of New Ulm, go east on Hwy 68 for 2 miles, then left on 110th Avenue, watch for signs for Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club, New Ulm.

      Cathedral Summer Festival, Sunday, June 23, 9am-5pm, Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 605 North State, New Ulm.

      Roast Pork Dinner served 10:30am-1:30pm; hamburgers, hotdogs, & tacos in a bag all day in outdoor food tent; homemade pie and ice cream; German potato salad & Smearkuchen; popcorn, smoothies and fresh fruit.

      Also, live entertainment; curiosity shop; shopping; book sale; fun; big ticket raffle at 5pm.

      Also, on Saturday, June 22, 8pm, there will be a Magic Show by Ronald McDonald; popcorn & non-alcoholic beverages; scavenger hunt; family-friendly movie shown drive-in style.

      Sunday, June 23, 1-4pm – Carver Creek Bluegrass (formerly known as Monson Family Bluegrass) a family band of five siblings ages 6-20, is known for delightful performances of bluegrass, old time, gospel and Irish music using a variety of instruments the typical banjo, guitar, bass and fiddle and some unusual ones, like the bodhran and musical slaw.

      The Harkin Store is glad to have the family back again for the 3rd year. Come enjoy the afternoon, bring a lawn chair or enjoy our porch. The family will have their music cds for sale.

      The Brown County Historical Society will be offering a living history camp at the school house on the Brown County Fairgrounds in New Ulm.

      The camp is open to children that are entering 1st-6th grades. This is a one day event held from 9am-1:30pm on Wednesday, June 26, or Thursday, June 27. Cost of the program is $10 and the deadline for registration is Monday, June 17. Class is size is limited, so participants must pre-register.

      Participants will experience writing with quill pens or slates, reading, arithmetic lessons, music, games and chores that made the one room school a unique part of our heritage. The students are encouraged to wear clothing appropriate for the 19th century, such as bonnets, long skirts, aprons, bib overalls or knickers. Students will also need to bring a cold lunch, preferably in a basket or lunch pail.
