The Minnesota River Area on Aging, Inc. and the Senior LinkAge Line will be offering two classes for beginning internet users. The classes will be held in New Ulm at the Senior High School room 229 on June 30 or August 14 from 9am-11am.
These are free classes for seniors who would like to learn the basics of operating a computer, learn how to use the internet to find answers to questions and how to use email to stay connected with friends and family. Information is also provided on how to use www.medicare.gov to compare health plans and check your Medicare Summary Notice for accuracy.

Under its new roof, the New Ulm Actors Community Theater (NUACT) will open its annual summer musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ on Thursday, July 24, for four shows in the State Street Theater located at 15 North State Street, New Ulm.

July 25-26 – The Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato – the Minnesota Mission of Mercy is a community service project that will provide free dental care for the many people in Minnesota facing barriers to dental care. The event is hosted by the Minnesota Dental Association and the Minnesota Dental Foundation.
Doors open at 5:30am; first come-first served. Dental services provided: cleanings; fillings; root canals on select teeth; a limited number of temporary partial dental appliances; extractions; oral hygiene instructions. Dental services NOT provided: full dentures; root canals on molars; crowns on molars; extractions of unexposed wisdom teeth; dental implants.

Tour the Mayo House for an interactive experience that has special emphasis on the life of frontier children – their chores, toys and games. In the parlor, challenge a family member to a game of Ninepins or various other 1800′s period games and make a whizzing whirlgig to take home; in the kitchen, try your hand at household chores; in the family room, practice your letters and numbers assigned as schoolwork.

The Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth is holding their annual Parish and Harvest Festival on Sunday, July 27. They are located 10 miles southwest of Sleepy Eye on County Highway 24.
The day will begin with a 9:30am mass, followed by a buffet style chicken and ham dinner. Dinner is served 11am-1:30pm. Take out orders available. Menu: chicken, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, coleslaw, beverage, ice cream. Tickets prices: adults/$9; ages 6-12/$5; ages 5 & under/$1.

The Harkin Store, which was open during the 1870′s when Laura lived in Walnut Grove, has 40% original merchandise still on the shelves. A costumed tour of the store and story of the unique bit of history told. Enjoy old-fashioned homemade egg coffee, lemonade and samples of store goods. Extra checker boards will be available for you to challenge your friends and family.
