      Now is the perfect time for important late winter tree pruning. The Linnaeus Arboretum is hosting an educational program on the basic “rules of thumb” of effective tree pruning.  Learn the basic tools and strategies, and techniques.  Program will begin at the Linnaeus Arboretum Interpretive Center.  Program is FREE, but preregistration is required by calling 933-6184.

    3. “Putting on the Ridge” fine arts celebration
      7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

      WILLMAR, MN – The third annual “Putting on the Ridge” fine arts celebration is set for Thursday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Ridgewater College, Willmar Campus Fine Arts Building.

      This night of music, art and acting is free and open to the public and is sure to tickle and inspire your art-appreciation side.

      New this year will be a live, “improv in painting” activity where a group of about a dozen students will hit the stage with their paints and brushes to create a collaborative large painting.

      Also new this year, see some of your favorite Disney characters come to life in song during several Disney movie selections, including “Frozen,” “Beauty and the Beast”, “The Lion King,” “Pocahontas,” and many more.

      As tradition has it, the student-driven night of entertainment will also include comedy acting sketches and improv, as well as art displays featuring paintings, drawings and more.

      This event teaches showmanship, teamwork and fellowship as well as competition. Entries from several states are expected. Weigh in is from 8:30-10:30 am. A judging contest starts at 11:00 with awards to follow at 12:30. Swine judging contest has 4H and FFA divisions as well as an adult division. Trophies will be awrded to the high individual as the gilt championship drive there iwll be a junior showmanship contest followed by senior showmanship. The day concludes iwth the market barrow show, the championship drive for overall champion and reserve market hog.

      The public is invited to come watch the days activities. Lunch will be by the Brown Coutny 4H Ambassadors
