    1. Hot Topics Event, New Ulm
      7:30 am – 9:00 am

      Hot  Topics event on Friday, July 11, the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a presentation on the ISD 88 referendum, which proposes the building of a new high school complex and other facility improvements. The presentation will take place in the lunchroom at the current high school at 414 S Payne with complimentary coffee and muffins available for those attending.

      The public is invited to attend the presentation by Jeff Bertrang, ISD 88 Superintendent. To RSVP for the event, call the Chamber at 507-233-4300 or email chamber@newulm.com. The presentation begins at 7:30am and will conclude around 8:30am. This event is open to the public. Attendees will need to use Payne Street to enter the high school parking lot adn then follow the signs.

    3. Lafayette Legion Pork Chop Supper
      5:00 pm – 10:00 pm

      The Lafayette American Legion Post 300 and the American Legion Auxiliary will host a Pork Chop Supper on Friday, July 11. The supper will be served from 5-7:30pm at the Lafayette Community Center. 

      The meal will include grilled pork chops, baked beans, potato salad, beverage and cupcake. There will also be a hot dog plate available. The chops will be prepared by Nicollet County Pork Producers. Join them for supper and stay to hear the Lafayette City Band perform.

    4. Gibbon Area Uncommon Band of Renown Concert
      6:00 pm – 9:30 pm

      The Gibbon Area Uncommon Band of Renown continues its 2014 season with a concert on Friday, July 11, beginning at 7:15pm. A picturesque park, timeless music and a playground for the kids. 

      Members of Augustana Church begin serving old-fashioned fare at 6pm, including BBQ’s, root beer floats and pies and brownie sundaes.  Come rain or shine.

    5. Songs of Hope Concert, New Ulm
      7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      Songs of Hope, a concert by young artists from countries worldwide, will be Friday, July 11, 7pm, United Church of Christ of New Ulm, 301 S Minnesota, New Ulm. Admission is free thanks to the sponsors. For more info, visit www.soundsofhope.org.

      Nicollet County Farm Bureau and KNUJ AM 860 invite everyone to Breakfast on the Farm at the Marvin and Laurie Krohn farm, 43527 County Road 4 in Nicollet on Saturday, July 12, 7-10am.

      Serving sausage, eggs, pancakes, milk, coffee and cheese; free parking; free-will donation collected; machinery and ag displays.

      Directions: 2-1/2 miles of Nicollet on Highway 111, then west on Co. 4, first farm

    2. 3rd Annual Madelia River 5K Run/Walk
      7:15 am – 12:00 pm

      3rd Annual Madelia River 5K Run/Walk Saturday, July 12 – 5K starts at 9am; kids fun run at 10am (kids fun run for children up to age 12)

    3. 8th Annual Murray County Classic Draft Horse Show
      9:00 am – 8:00 pm

      Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13 – Murray County Fairgrounds, 8th Annual Murray County Classic Horse Draft Show in Slayton

      Show times Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 12:30pm; gates open at 9am both days

      Farm Team Demonstrations-Saturday 10am, south of horse arena. Farming demonstrations on Saturday include stationary rake, plowing, discing, seeding, manure spreading and there will be rope making and corn shellling for all ages.

      Admission is $7/per person and 10 and under/free. Children’s Barn Saturday and Sunday. Farm Teams compete both days of show.

    4. ‘Best of the Wurst’ Band at Harkin Store
      1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

      For the afternoon of July 20 from 1-4pm, the 1870′s Harkin Store will have old time music by the ‘Best of the Wurst’ band. Marv and Vern and Garfield will play a variety of old time tunes. Come bring a lawn chair or blanket or enjoy the porch for the afternoon.

    2. 10th Annual Cycle Sunday, Lamberton
      9:30 am – 2:00 pm

      The 10th Annual Cycle Sunday motorcycle gathering will be held at the Lamberton City Park Sunday, July 13. The event will begin with coffee and juice, cookies and rolls at 9:30am with time to visit with other riders and scope out the bikes. The non-denominational outdoor service will begin at 10am. This years event will be in Lamberton’s downtown park, just 3 blocks south of Highway 14 and 1 block west on Main Street.

      A free picnic lunch will be served following the worship service, compliments of the Lamberton Church of Christ. A short area ride will follow for anyone who would like to participate.

    3. Summer Get Together Salad Luncheon, Green Isle

      Summer Get Together Salad Luncheon will be held Sunday, July 13, 10:30am-1pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Green Isle. 

      Menu: salads, bbq’s, desserts, lemonade, coffee. Free will offering. Sponsored by LWML. Proceeds for mission projects.

    1. Brown County’s Annual Twilight Meeting
      7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

      Brown County’s Annual Twilight Meeting will be held Tuesday, July 15, at 7pm, hosted at the Farm of the Portners’…Tom and Mary and Mark and Lisa, located on 29042 240th Street. 

      Featuring Dairy Knowledge Bowl, hosted by KNUJ’s Brian Filzen; hay rides; judging; free lunch; door prizes; dairy princesses.

      Directions: Co. 27 West of Sleepy Eye, turn north on 285th Street, continue 1.5 miles, then it is on 240th Street

    1. Watonwan County Fair
      9:00 am – 11:45 pm

      Watonwan County Fair will be held Wednesday, July 16, through Sunday, July 20

      Come and enjoy a traditional county fair at the Watonwan County Fairgrounds in St. James. There will be food and show vendors. Bingo every day and J&K Amusements will provide a carnival atmosphere on the midway.

      There will be a tractor pull in the grandstand on Friday and an off road enduro race on Saturday; entertainment at the beer gardens every night; fireworks on Saturday after 10pm.

      The Watonwan County Fair will host horse events all weekend long, including Ranch Rodeo; donkey races; mutton busting and everyone’s favorite the Horse Pull is on Saturday at 6:30pm. 

      Senior Citizen’s Day is Sunday with free music in the entertainment tent featuring the county sounds of Bee Kays. Bluegrass music with Barton’s Hallow on Saturday in the free entertainment tent starting at 5:30pm.

      There will be children’s games and activities throughout the fair.

    2. 9th Annual Shoot Out
      1:30 pm – 9:30 pm

      The Shoot Out will be at the River Ridge Gun Club, located west of Courtland on Highway 14, on Wednesday, July 16. Rain date will be Thursday, July 17.

      It begins with registration at 1:30pm and a shotgun start at 2pm. Following the Shoot Out, there will be a pork dinner and brief program at the gun club. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm.

    3. Music in the Park, Glencoe Lions Club
      6:00 pm – 9:30 pm

      Wednesday, July 16, Glencoe Lions Club Music in the Park, Oak Leaf Park, shelter #2. Free live music performed by George’s Concertina Band from 6:30-8pm.

      A pulled pork sandwich meal with chips, pickles, dessert and beverage is available, serving from 6-7pm. Proceeds go to community projects. Bring a chair and bring your friends.

      Members of Saint Peter’s Church will serve hot food, cool beverages and homemade pies beginning at 6pm.

    1. Bavarian Blast 5K Run/Walk
      8:00 am – 1:00 pm

      The New Ulm American Legion and KNUJ/SAM are the primary sponsors for this year’s Bavarian Blast 5K Walk/Run to be held Saturday, July 19. The race will begin at 9am from the New Ulm Civic Center.

      Pre-registration can be found online at www.itsyourrace.com. Pre-registration participate fee is $25 and if done prior to July 5, a run/walk t-shirt is guaranteed. Registration can also be done beginning at 8am the day of the event for a $30 fee.

      Teams of five or more are encouraged, and if registered by July 5, they will get their own personal color team shirt. 

      Proceeds from this event will go towards New Ulm American Legion Community Youth projects.

      A contest for Amateur Singers; ages 15-25. This will be held on Sunday, July 20, at 2:30pm, Brown County Fairgrounds during Bavarian Blast, 12th North Street, New Ulm.

      Each city winner goes on to compete in Minnesota Sings 2014, where 1st prize is $2,500; 2nd prize $1,000 and 3rd prize is $500.

    1. Fairfax Area Parkinson Group Monthly Meeting

      The Fairfax Area Parkinson’s Support Group will be meeting on Thursday, July 24, at 2pm at the Fairfax Community Home in the Activity Room. 

      Reverend Vicki Tautges of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax will be there to provide helpful hints and information on mobility.

    2. Ag Water Quality Meeting, Sleepy Eye
      4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

      All area farmers and residents with a vested interest in agriculture and water quality are invited to an important presentation on Thursday, July 24, from 4-5:30pm at the Sleepy Eye Community Center, 115 2nd Avenue NE, Sleepy Eye.

      Dr. Satish Gupta, professor of soil, water and climate at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and Steve Commerford, independent agriculture and environmental consultant, New Ulm, will join forces in addressing proposed regulations from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency that will impact farming, fertilizer and manure management practices.

      The meeting is sponsored by Brown County Farm Bureau and is open to the public. There is no cost to attend.

    3. Fiddler on the Roof, NUACT Production
      6:00 pm – 6:00 pm

      Under its new roof, the New Ulm Actors Community Theater (NUACT) will open its annual summer musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ on Thursday, July 24, for four shows in the State Street Theater located at 15 North State Street, New Ulm.

      Shows are July 24, 25, 25, 26 at 7:30pm and a Sunday matinee on July 27 at 2pm. All seats are reserved and are available online at www.newulmact.com or by calling 507-359-9990,

      The new box office located inside Door 7 of the theater (on the Washington Street side) is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11:30am-1:30pm. Tickets are also available at the door prior to the performance. Tickets prices are $15/main floor center section, which have the only blue padded seats. Side sections on the main floor and first balcony are $12.50. Side sections in the balcony are $10 and upper balcony seats are $7.50.

    1. Mission of Mercy, Minnesota Dental Foundation
      5:30 am – 8:00 pm

      July 25-26 – The Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato – the Minnesota Mission of Mercy is a community service project that will provide free dental care for the many people in Minnesota facing barriers to dental care. The event is hosted by the Minnesota Dental Association and the Minnesota Dental Foundation.

      Doors open at 5:30am; first come-first served. Dental services provided: cleanings; fillings; root canals on select teeth; a limited number of temporary partial dental appliances; extractions; oral hygiene instructions. Dental services NOT provided: full dentures; root canals on molars; crowns on molars; extractions of unexposed wisdom teeth; dental implants.

    2. Social Media Breakfast, New Ulm

      Social Media Breakfast will be held Friday, July 25, 7:30-8:30am at the New Ulm Country Club

      How to Use Video to Enhance Your Website & Social Media Outlets – why video is important and how it can be utilized creatively will be discussed. They will also outline methods on how to create your own video content as well as how to find and work with a professional production company. Presented by Jack Beranek & John Guggisberg, Flying Buttress Media.

    3. Frontier Fun Kids Activities at the Mayo House
      11:00 am – 6:00 pm

      Bring the kids for some frontier fun at the W.W. Mayo House on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 25, 26 and 27. Through games and activities, family will be introduced first-hand to daily life 150 years ago. 

      Tour the Mayo House for an interactive experience that has special emphasis on the life of frontier children – their chores, toys and games. In the parlor, challenge a family member to a game of Ninepins or various other 1800′s period games and make a whizzing whirlgig to take home; in the kitchen, try your hand at household chores; in the family room, practice your letters and numbers assigned as schoolwork.
