The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting a mussel hike along the Cottonwood River on Saturday, September 15, at 1pm and could use some help surveying the mussel population in a two-mile stretch of the river. Participants should be prepared to get wet and muddy.
There is no charge to participate in this event, but vehicles are required to have a permit which can be purchased at the Flandrau Park. To participate in the mussel hike, people should meet at the day-use area near the swimming pond at 12:45pm. They should wear shoes and clothing appropriate for walking in and along the river and bring drinking water. The hike will last approximately two hours.
