Join them in welcoming Independent Historian and Publisher, Mary Bakeman, to the Fort Ridgely Commissary Building on June 30 at 2pm.
Mary will recount the 1857 attack by a Wahpetuke band of Santee Sioux near the northwestern Iowa towns of Okoboji and Spirit Lake and how those events contributed to the US Dakota War of 1862.
Fort Ridgely State Historic Site is open all summer long, Thursday through Sunday, 10am-5pm. Self guided interpretive walking trail is open 7 days a week, sun up to sun down.
