Drunk Mankato woman flees the scene of an accident 08 Oct 18

A Mankato woman was reportedly involved in a hit and run after driving the wrong way down Stadium Road. The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible impaired driver leaving a Mankato business in a silver Ford on Madison Avenue last week. When Mankato Police arrived, the Ford and suspect were gone. About 30 minutes later, Dispatch received a call of a hit and run on Stadium Road involving a silver Ford and a Jeep. The driver of the Jeep reported that after the Ford struck his car, it continued to drive in the wrong lane on Stadium Hill. Police found the owner of the Ford at her apartment, the owner identified the driver was her mother, 45-year-old Dayna Pehling. Police said that Pehling had a strong odor of alcohol, so they asked her if she was aware that the legal limit was .08, she said she understood and she believed she was probably .06. They conducted a portable breath test at the scene which came back as .21. She was then arrested and taken to Blue Earth County Jail, where she refused to do another breath test. Pehling has been charged with DWI, refusing a breath test, traffic collision, driving after her license was revoked, and failure to drive in a single lane. Pehling had been convicted of DWI twice before this incident.
