Brown County Jury returns guilty verdict in prostitution with a minor case 12 Jul 18

On July 6, A Brown County Jury delivered a guilty verdict for a man on trial charged with prostitution with a minor. Assistant County Attorney Dan Kalk who prosecuited the case said the verdict for Lawrence Depyper was returned in only 8 minutes. Depyper was arrested August 26th 2017 as a result of a sting operation conducted by local law enforcement in Springfield. Senior Investigator for the New Ulm Police Department Jeff Hohensee says the success of the sting operations shows how prevalent sex trafficking and underage prostitution is in our smaller, rural communities. During the sting, law enforcement agents act like 16-year-old minors and post advertisements online suggesting they would have sex for money. Over 50 suspects responded. Depyper was one of 8 suspects arrested in the two-day operation.
