New Ulm couple receives Service to Mankind award 14 May 18

A local New Ulm couple is being honored for theird dedication to the community. Terry and Janet Dempsey have been awarded the Sertoma Club’s Service to Mankind award. They will be honored during an annual banquet Tuesday, May 22nd at the New Ulm Country Club. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Terry served as a legislator in the Minnesota House from 1979 until 1992. He left the position early to become a judge. Janet was a long-time kindergarten teacher at St. Mary’s before it became part of the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools. Over the years the couple has opened their home, fostering 15 children. The pair has also served in Many New Ulm events earning the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools Distinguished Service Award in 1993 and the Farm City Hub Club Service to Agriculture Award in 2016.
