Mankato man arrested for murder in drug overdose case 12 May 18

A Mankato man was arrested Friday for the alleged drug overdose murder of a North Mankato woman whose body was found in an apartment in North Mankato in April. According to the criminal complaint, North Mankato police were called to an apartment where they found the female deceased. Police found drug paraphernalia and an unknown powder in the apartment. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner ruled the death was caused by an overdose. Toxicology reports showed she had fentanyl in her system. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension drug testing lab identified the powder found at the overdose scene to powder located in 38-year-old Otis Dear’s home. Through an investigation, agents identified Dear as the source of the substance. Authorities are seeking third-degree murder charges against Dear for supplying fentanyl to the 29-year-old female victim.
