DNR Motto: ‘If you care, leave it there’ 22 May 18

The Department of Natural Resources has a saying, “if you care, leave it there.” The DNR’s Information Officer Dan Ruiter says this is the time of year lots of phone calls come in for injured or abandoned wildlife. Ruiter says many times he encourages citizens to just leave the animal alone. Ruiter says trying to rescue injured or seemingly orphaned wild animals is a safety issue. They could bite or scratch and spread disease. Ruiter says baby birds are commonly found on the ground this year while trying to fledge. Ruiter reminds citizens that it is illegal to attempt to rehabilitate and raise a wild animal.
