New Ulm Council authorizes enhanced crosswalks 18 Apr 18

The New Ulm City Council authorized the installation of enhanced crosswalk markings at 17 crosswalks most children use when traveling to school on foot. Cindy Winters with the Heart of New Ulm and Safe Routes to Schools committee says the committee along with New ulm Area Schools identified the crosswalks most used by students. Continental or zebra stripping will be painted on all indentified crosswalks to improve the visibility of the crosswalks at a greater distance which according to study’s, improves yielding behavior. Street Supervisor Curt Curry reported to the council that hours staff spends on painting on raods each year has increased by over 1300 hours since 2014.
