St. Peter moves forward raising tobacco purchasing age to 21 13 Mar 18

Monday night the St. Peter City Council moved forward with a resolution to start the process of raising the age of tobacco purchase to 21. Originally the council was going to raise the age only if Mankato and North Mankato did the same. The North Mankato City Council supports the measure and already passed a resolution to raise the age, but only if Mankato passed a similar policy. Mankato rejected the measure, nullifying North Mankato’s decision. To change St. Peter’s city tobacco sales ordinance, the city must notify businesses 30 days before the ordinance change comes before the city council. Monday’s decision begins that process.
