Trial of Belle Plaine girl who killed bicyclist to begin Tuesday 10 Feb 18

The trial of a Belle Plaine girl who allegedly hit and killed a bicyclist riding along Highway 25 last spring is scheduled to begin Tuesday in Sibley County District Court. The 17-year-old girl has been charged with felony criminal vehicular homicide and gross misdemeanor reckless driving. According to the criminal complaint, the girl’s vehicle struck Phillip Ilg of New Prague in June 2017. She told investigators she looked down for just a second when the accident happened. Investigators from the Minnesota State Patrol determined the girl had been on Snapchat on her cell phone at the time of the crash.
