Northrop elevator cleared 02 Jan 18

Fire crews battled the blaze at the Northrop elevator for 60 hours in frigid temperatures before they were finally able to clear the scene. By 7:30 Sunday night the tear down of the elevator was complete. The structure was in pieces in a nearby field where it will continued to be monitored. Crews first responded Thursday after grain dust ignited causing the top half of the elevator to explode. The fire followed Friday morning and wasn’t fully contained until Sunday. Despite a few cases of frostbite, no one was seriously injured in the explosion or fire. The cause of the explosion and fire remain under investigation.
