Butterfield bar robbery was falsely reported 15 Dec 17

The employee who claimed a Butterfield bar was robbed this fall is now being charged with falsely reporting a crime. 31-year-old Matthew James Rinne was charged Wednesday in Watonwan County District Court with misdemeanors for falsely reporting a crime and unlawfully playing pull tabs. According to the criminal complaint, on Halloween, Rinne reported Buckshot’s Bar was robbed. He told police he was working after the bar had closed when two people came in and robbed him at knifepoint. He reported he gave the robbers over $10,000 from the cash register and pull tab machines. Witnesses reported Rinne played pull tabs before the bar closed. Because Rinne is related to the owner of the bar, he is prohibited from playing pull tabs. There were inconsistencies in Rinne’s story and he reportedly admitted to gambling before refusing to answer any more questions.
