Rockford woman accused of stealing from elderly Gaylord couple 08 Nov 17

A 49-year-old Rockford woman is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from an elderly couple in Gaylord. Michelle Lee Mintz was charged Tuesday in Sibley County District Court with 5 felony counts of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult. The director of Oak Terrace Assisted Living in Gaylord reported last month that Mintz had financial power of attorney over two residents of the nursing home and hadn’t been paying their rent or providing needed medication because the pharmacy refused service due to unpaid bills. A Gaylord Police Officer reviewed the couple’s banking records and found more than $100,000 in withdrawls between 2015-2017 that did not appear to benefit the couple. Mitz allegedly then admitted to the officer she was using the money to pay her own bills.
