New Ulm City Council tables leash law 06 Sep 17

A recommendation from the New Ulm Park and Recreation Department to reinstate a leash law in New Ulm City Parks was tabled Tuesday evening for the second time. In 2004 the New Ulm City Council removed the leash requirement from parks and instead made the leash requirement on recreational trails. Since then, parks have been considered to be under the same laws as the city including the dogs and cats must be on a leash or under the direct control of the owner. New Ulm residents spoke in favor and against a leash law. The council was also conflicted over the decision. In the end, no decision was reached and the issued was tabled. The council directed City Attorney Roger Hippert to provide more information on the language of leash laws and the council would like to hear feedback from the Animal Control Officer.
