Fairmont freshmen injured in Mankato hit and run 15 Sep 17

A 2017 Fairmont High School graduate and first-year freshman at Minnesota State University Mankato was one of the severely injured when a man drove into a crowd of people early Sunday morning in a Mankato parking lot. Kevin Chen was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester where he underwent his first surgery Sunday to clean and close the wound. On Tuesday Chen had another surgery and is scheduled to have another one soon to remove skin from his back to put over the skin that was torn from his leg. According to a family member, when the car pulled away after hitting Chen, it pulled out a part of his tibia and the skin and muscle on his leg. Doctors say Chen will be looking at a total of at least 5 surgeries over the next 9 months.
