Woman suing North Mankato for fall on sidewalk 01 Aug 17

A wman is suing the city of North Mankato for a fall on a sidewalk. Denise Drill filed a civil lawsuit in Nicollet County District Court in July against the city and councilor Billy Steiner. The suit seeks financial damages for injuries she sustained when she tripped on a sidewalk in June 2015. The complaint claims Drill tripped on a “dangerous and defective” segment of the sidewalk and vegetation on Steiner’s property created or contributed to the sidewalk’s defect. Damages of over $50,000 are sought for medical expenses, loss of income and loss of future earning capacity. The response filed by the city is that the city received no reports of a dangerous sidewalk before the fall. The Leagues of Minnesota Cities attorney further contends that multiple state laws give the city immunity in the case. Drill and city officials will make their first appearance in court in September.
