Redwood Valley High School student collecting footwear 07 Jul 17

A Redwood Valley High School junior is collecting new and gently used shoes for a project to get shoes into the hands of people that need them. Lauren Karnitz began researching organizations that accept donations and she found a startling fact. Each year, more than 600 million shoes are thrown away in the United States. She figured those shoes can be reused and help others in need. Karnitz is collecting shoes through the end of August and her goal is to collect more than 3,000 pairs. Shoes can be dropped off at Culligan Water and Kohls Weelborg Ford in Redwood Falls, Harvest Land Cooperative sites in Morgan, Comfrey, Clements, Wabasso, Springfield and Morton and Kohls Weelborg Chevrolet in New Ulm.
