Mercury cleanup in New Ulm is completed 11 Feb 17

Cleanup crews for a mercury spill that happened in the alley of 100 Noirth Garden Street on Tuesday was completed Friday evening. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has concluded that the spill was accidental and the homeowner who disposed of the mercury didn’t know what it was. No charges or fines are expected. Homeowner Mitch Frandsen was cleaning out a garage and the container the mercury was stored in was tossed into a dumpster with the rest of the stuff Frandsen was cleaning out. The MPCA said the mercury had likely been sitting in the garage for years before Frandsen acquired the property.
