New Ulm battery to take part in Gen. John Vessey Jr’s interment 31 Aug 16

Funeral Services for General John Vessey Jr., a Minnesotan who was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Reagan, will be at  1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel at Fort Snelling. He will be buried Thursday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley. Five members of the New Ulm Battery and a team of horses are on their way north to prepare for the interment they have been invited to be a part of. Vessey died Thursday, August 18 at the age of 94. Vessey began his 46-year-military career enlisting in the Minnesota National Guard in 1939 when he was 17.
