Detours in Sleepy Eye hard to navigate at first 28 Jul 16

Signs were in place for a least a week warning drivers of the impending detours and road closures along Highway 14 through Sleepy Eye. Navigating the detour on Monday caused some problems for motorists. Public Works Director Bob Elston says the detour needed some tweeking on Monday. At first all north south street intersections were closed, but once the street department noticed the error several were opened. Elston says intersections will only be closed where work is being done on them. Large arrows and signs warning of the detour have been placed well ahead of the detour and by Tuesday Elston says traffic was flowing much better. The project includes replacement of water main valves, sanitary and storm sewer manholes and repair of some sanitary sewer pipes. The work is taking place in preparation for MnDOT to reconstruct Highway 14 through Sleepy Eye scheduled for 2018.
