Local Area Veteran’s Day Programs 08 Nov 15

STATE OF MINNESOTA: 8:30-9:30am Free Breakfast at the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights followed by the Program at 10am.


NEW ULM-A Veterans Day program will be held at the Cathedral High School gym. The program starts at 11 with music by the Cathedral High School band. The 45-minute program will include speakers and choral selections by the Concord Singers. A lunch will be held at noon for all veterans and participants at the American Legion Club. The program will be broadcast live on KNUJ 860 AM at 11 (Wednesday). 

FAIRFAX-The Fairfax Veterans Day program will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Fairfax Auditorium. The keynote speaker will be Renville County Veteran’s Service Officer Lee Stock. Cookies will be served after the program. 

GAYLORD-A Veterans Day Program will be held at the Sibley East High School in Arlington with keynote speaker Col. Brian H. Pfarr. VFW and American Legion Posts from Arlington, Gaylord, Green Isle and New Auburn will be participating. The program begins at 10:15 a.m.

GLENCOE-SILVER LAKE-The Glencoe-Silver Lake High School will host a veteran’s day program at 10 in the high school gym. The program is open to the public. The guest speaker will be Specialist Tucker Ingenthron, a member of the Minnesota National Guard. 

LAKE CRYSTAL-Members of the Lake Crystal American Legion Family, Post 294, Auxilliary Unit 294, invite Veterans to a Thank-you banquet being held at the Headquarters of Post 294 in Lake Crystal. Social hour will begin at 5:30 and a dinner will be served at 6:30. Those planning on attending are asked to call the Crystal Ballroom and Diner at the Legion at 726-6050. 

LAMBERTON-A Veterans Day Program will be held at Red Rock Central School in Lamberton at 10:15. 

MORGAN-A Veteran’s Day program at Cedar Mountain High School in Morgan will include a special dedication ceremony for the new flag pole that was erected as part of the construction/remodeling program. The Morgan VFW Sherman-Bohn Post 577 will donate the flag that will adorn the new  flag pole. Joel Harmoning of Franklin will be the keynote speaker. The program will begin at 9 in the gym. Refreshments will be available following the program. 

NICOLLET COUNTY-A Veterans Day Program will take place at Nicollet Public School at 1:15. The guest speaker is Master Sergeant Butch Whitehead, a Gulf War Veteran who is very involved with the Disabled American Veteran Program. The event is open to the public. Later in the day the Nicollet American Legion Post is hosting a veteran’s only program. The event is open to all veterans who are residents of Nicollet County. A social hour will begin at 4:30 followed by a free meal at 5:30 and a program to follow. 

REDWOOD FALLS-A Veterans Day Program will be held at 1 p.m. in the River Valley High School gym. Josh Day of the Minnesota National Guard will be the keynote speaker. 

ST. JAMES/BUTTERFIELD-The St. James and Butterfield-Odin School Districts will commemorate Veterans Day with services and special speakers. The service in St. James will begin at 10 a.m. in the high school gym. Sadie Rezac will be the keynote speaker. The service at the Butterfield-Odin Public School will be held at 10 in the gym. Keynote speaker at the Butterfield-Odin program will be Willie Krahn. 

ST. PETER-St. Peter High School and Middle School will host a Veterans Day Program at 9:30 in the high school gym. A veteran’s recognition reception will be held at 9:15 and is open to the public. This year’s veteran’s day program will feature Tim Adams as the guest speaker. Adams is currently a space Operations Manager with the Minnesota National Guard’s 34th infantry division in Rosemont. 

SLEEPY EYE-Sleepy Eye’s Veteran’s Day Program includes programs at St. Mary’s and the Public School as well as a noon lunch and an evening dinner at the Servicemen’s Club. The keynote speaker at the schools programs and veteran’s dinner will be Bob Sharp, a Vietnam veteran. The school programs are scheduled for 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s and 10:30 a.m. at Public School. 

SPRINGFIELD-A Veterans Day Program will be held at St. Raphael’s School at 11. The fifth-grade taught by Sheila Forster is planning the program and all grades will participate. The public is invited to the program. Refreshments will be served following the program. The Springfield American Legion Auxillary will host the annual Veterans Day mulligan stew supper this (Wednesday) evening in the local club rooms. Serving will take place from 5:30 to 7. 

TRUMAN-A Veterans Day Program will take place at 10 in the Truman Elementary School gym. 

WABASSO-A Veterans Day Program will be held at Wabasso Public School beginning at 9:30. The Wabasso High School band and choir will be performing. Keynote speaker will be Josh Day of the Minnesota National Guard. 

WINTHROP-A Veteran’s Day program will be held at 10:15 in the GFW Gymnasium in Winthrop. The keynote speaker will be Sibley County Services Officer Lisa Klenk. The public is invited. Please enter by the northeast doors.
