Regional wind project permits revoked 01 Sep 15

Two wind power projects in the region have had their permits revoked. The Sibley Wind Substation planned for southwest of Winthrop and Comfrey Wind Energy planned for west of Comfrey saw their licenses revoked by the Public Utilities Commission. Sibley Wind asked for its construction permit to be withdrawn recently after opposition based on bird and bat kills. Comfrey Wind first applied for a construction permit in 2007. The project has been granted two extensions and construction began before the end of 2014. But the state Department of Commerce said in July this construction came before compliance filings with the commission.
