Phil Hughes fired seven innings of one-run ball to guide the Twins to a 6-1 win over the Athletics at O.co Coliseum. Hughes improved to 12-and-8 for Minnesota, which avoided a four-game sweep and snapped a four-game losing streak. Josh Willingham and Brian Dozier both homered, while Kurt Suzuki batted in two runs in victory.
The Twins start a three-game series with the Astros tonight in Houston. Tommy Milone will make his Minnesota debut. The left-hander went 6-and-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 16 starts with the Oakland A’s, who sent him to the Twins for Sam Fuld at the trade deadline.
