The New Ulm city Council will consider options regarding the City Hall parking lot sign at its meeting today. The options now are to either remove the sign, update the sign for displaying community messages, or to lease the sign space to a business. The sign was made by a previous Marktplaz Mall owner, but now is inoperable. The cost to upgrade the sign is expected to range from $50,000 to $80,000. If the City chooses to lease the sign, the display could still be used for community information 20 percent, but there is concern that a private operator could restrict usage from certain businesses or public entities.
