New Ulm Resident Honored By MVAC 23 Jul 14

New Ulm resident Opal Dewanz received the Roger J. Wolfe Achievement Award for her lifetime of volunteer activities at Minnesota Valley Action Council’s annual meeting this week. The award is presented in honor of the late Roger Wolfe, a 22-year member of MVAC’s board of directors who was tireless in his commitment to improving the lives of others through volunteer activities. Opal is an active volunteer for TRIAD, CAST, Meals on Wheels, the New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf, the Clothing Depot, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau, New Ulm Actors Community Theatre, the Brown County Historical Society, and the Brown County Adopt-A-Family Holiday Project. Minnesota Valley Action Council is south central Minnesota’s primary poverty-fighting organization, helping low-income families in nine counties achieve self-sufficiency.
