KC Top Twins, Sign Prospect 31 Jul 14

Alex Gordon went 3-for-4 with an RBI double during a three-run sixth inning as the Royals edged the Twins 3-2 in the middle of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium.  Phil Hughes fell to 10-and-8 after giving up three runs in six innings for the Twins, who have lost four of six.  Josh Willingham belted a solo shot and Danny Santana plated a run in defeat. The Twins wrap up their three-game series with the Royals tonight in Kansas City.  Kevin Correia gets the ball for Minnesota.  He is 5-and-13 with a 5.06 ERA in 21 starts this season.  KC will send out right-hander Yordano Ventura, who is 7-and-8 with a 3.63 ERA. Coverage begins at 6:40pm on 860 AM KNUJ and SAM 107.3.

Healdsburg’s Brandon Poulson has earned a 250-thousand-dollar contract with the Twins.  In a rather unique scenario, the 24-year-old is joining the Twins’ minor league system after earning a contract worth ten times more than other undrafted players.  A Twins scout saw him throw 100-miles-per-hour recently and talked the organization into signing him.
