Jason Vargas and two relievers combined on a four-hitter as the Royals shut out the Twins 4-0 in the rubber match of a three-game set at Target Field. Kevin Correia [[ core-AYE-uh ]] allowed just two runs in six innings, but fell to 4-and-10 with the loss. Chris Parmelee had two of the five hits for Minnesota, which has lost seven of its last nine games. The Twins open up a four-game series with the Yankees tonight at Target Field. Phil Hughes will get the ball against his former team. He’s 8-and-4 with a 3.58 ERA in 16 starts. New York will counter with right-hander Masahiro Tanaka, who is 11-and-3 with a 2.10 ERA. Twins first baseman Joe Mauer [[ MOW-er ]] is on the shelf. The team has placed the former AL MVP on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique. Mauer is in the midst of a 12-game hitting streak and is batting .271 with two homers and 28 RBI in 76 games for the Twins. Minnesota has recalled Chris Colabello from Triple-A Rochester to take his spot on the roster.
