District 88 Referendum Meeting 30 Jul 14

The final public information meeting was held yesterday on the District 88 Building Referendum at the District Administration Center Auditorium. Residents will be able to vote whether the district should authorize a building bond of $46.9 million to build a new high school and remodel Jefferson, Washington and the current high school on the August 12 primary ballot. The district’s needs were highlighted by Superintendent Jeff Bertrang as appropriate classrooms for required programs, recommended movement space, updated technology, secure entrances and safe bus loading zones. Concerns were brought up about the school possibly over spending, to which Bertrang explained that the current option being proposed was one of 10 options discussed by the District Task Force last winter, and the cost of this option was deemed the most reasonable.
