Bird Island Assault Sentence Upheld 10 Jul 14

The Minnesota Court of Appeals has upheld the ruling against a Bird Island man convicted of assault and sentenced to 68 months in prison. Michael Jon Underland was involved in a late-night scuffle with another man in Feburary of 2012 at a residence in Spicer that ended with Underland stabbing the other man in the abdomen with a knife. Saying that Underland did not accept responsibility for that assault he was sentenced to the maximum presumptive sentence based on state guidelines and his criminal history. Underland is currently serving his sentence at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Stillwater.
