Derek Jeter went 2-for-2 and scored a run in his final All-Star Game to lead the American League in a 5-3 win over the NL at Target Field. It was Jeter’s 14th appearance in the Midsummer Classic. Mike Trout had a double and triple with two RBI and earned MVP honors. Glen Perkins locked down the save for the American League. Perkins struck out one in his perfect inning with catcher Kurt Suzuki behind the plate. Suzuki did not get an at-bat in the game.
Minnesota opens the second half of the season on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Target Field. Minnesota sits at 44-and-50 on the season and is tied with Chicago for last in the AL Central. Kyle Gibson gets the ball on Friday for the Twins. He’s 8-and-7 with a 3.92 ERA in 18 starts. The Rays will counter with David Price, who is 4-and-6 with a 4.14 ERA.
