Tigers Top Twins Late, Plouffe ON DL 16 Jun 14

J.D. Martinez lifted a sac-fly in the bottom of the ninth to send the Tigers to a 4-3 win over the Twins at Comerica Park.  Oswaldo Arcia’s error one play before allowed Torii Hunter to get to third base and eventually score the winning run.  Josh Willingham and Kendrys Morales each knocked in a run for Minnesota, which has dropped two straight since a three-game win streak.  The Twins continue their nine-game road trip tonight in Boston with the first of three games against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.  Kevin Correia gets the ball for Minnesota.  He’s 3-and-7 with a 5.60 ERA in 13 starts.  Boston will counter with right-hander Rubby De La Rosa, who is 1-and-2 with a 3.93 ERA in three starts. Coverage begins at 5:40pm on 860 AM KNUJ and SAM 107.3.

The Twins placed third baseman Trevor Plouffe on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with inflammation between the ninth rib and the coastal cartilage on his left side.  Plouffe was hurt in Saturday’s game in Detroit.  He’s hitting .241 with 22 doubles, five homers and 38 RBI in 64 games this season.  The Twins recalled infielder Pedro Florimon from Triple-A Rochester to fill the roster spot.
