Winnebago Attempted Murder Plea 06 May 14

A Winnebago man facing an attempted murder charge for allegedly trying to strangle and stab a woman during a drunken argument pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree assault on Monday. 47-year-old Joseph Dean Conklin had also allegedly threatened to hurt himself when police arrived at his home following the fight, but he was tased and taken into custody. Conklin had been facing up to 40 years in prison on 4 separate charges, but is now expected to be sentenced to 21 months in jail, with credit for the 3 months he has already served, in exchange for the guilty plea. His sentencing is scheduled for June 9th.
