Phil Hughes and two relievers combined on an eight-hit shutout as the Twins blanked the Padres 2-0 to sweep the brief two-game series at Petco Park. Hughes struck out seven over seven scoreless innings as he improved to 5-and-1. Glen Perkins locked up his 14th save. Trevor Plouffe [[ ploof ]] homered and Chris Parmelee plated the other run for Minnesota, which has won five-of-six.
The Twins resume their road trip tomorrow in San Francisco with the opener of a weekend series against the Giants. Kyle Gibson will take the mound for Minnesota. He is 4-and-3 with a 4.20 ERA in eight starts. The Giants will counter with Tim Lincecum who is 3-and-3 with a 4.74 ERA.
