Minnesota State-Mankato did not let an early 3-0 deficit get them down, as they knocked off Emporia State of Kansas 11-5 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament in Russellville, Arkansas. Senior pitcher Jason Hoppe tossed a complete game to get the win on the mound. He is now 11-and-2 on the year. MSU-Mankato is now 42-and-9 on the season and will face Southern Arkansas tonight at 7 p.m. The Mavericks finished second in the nation last year and are hoping to get a chance to return to the D-II College Baseball World Series.
Rain postponed play in two games featuring Minnesota-based college baseball teams at the NCAA Division III Regional in Moline, Illinois yesterday. St. Thomas was to have played Buena Vista, while St. Scholastica was to have taken on DePauw. The games are now scheduled for today.
