Harkin Store Mother’s Day Event 10 May 14

The historic Harkin Store celebrates Mother’s Day on Sunday with a special program from 1 to 4pm. The 1870s-era store is all that is left of the riverboat town of West Newton, and has much of its original merchandise still on the shelves. On Sunday there will be a large display of pioneer-woman aprons hanging in the store, including aprons made by Alexander Harkin’s grand-daughter, Janet Massopust.  The gift shop will be open with aprons for purchase also, as well as the usual books, toys, candy and handcrafted and unique items. The Harkin Store is located 9 miles northwest of New Ulm on Nicollet County Road 21, the Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway “Bottom Road.”
