E-Cigarette Legislation Approved 09 May 14

DFL State Senator Kathy Sheran of Mankato on Thursday successfully passed her legislation that adds regulations for the use of e-cigarettes. The legislation was included in a larger Health and Human Services Omnibus Bill which passed on a 48-17 vote. If signed into law, the new language would treat e-cigarettes the same as tobacco and in turn ban smoking them in the same places cigarettes are banned. The bill would also prohibit the use of the devices in schools; allow local units of government to require a tobacco license for businesses to sell the devices; and keep the products behind the counter at retailers just as other tobacco products are now.
