Celebrating Screen-Free Week 06 May 14

This is Screen-Free Week, a chance to get your kids to turn off their televisions, video games, phones, tablets, and computers. Sara Adelmann of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood says that the group’s annual initiative encourages children to try activities such as reading, hands-on playing, and exploring nature. Adelmann says that excessive screen time can be linked to poor school performance, childhood obesity and attention problems. It’s now estimated that kids spend more time with screen media than in any other activity except sleeping, and a recent study found that the use of electronic devices among school-age children has tripled in the past 2 years.
