An audit of the Blue Earth County Fair’s financial records has determined that no theft of funds has occurred. Late last year fair board members had expressed concerns that former board chair Jerry Kramer had stolen fair funds, but the recently-completed audit showed that the fair’s current financial difficulties were caused by poor spending decisions. There were no unaccounted for funds or unknown expenses. The fair’s shareholders voted in January to move the fair closer to Mankato due to rapidly falling attendance and financial hardship. It will take place in Garden City again this year, but the fair board plans to have a variety of new information available at the fair about its plans to move. A slimmed down, more efficient fair is planned this year as well to prevent anymore loss of funds ahead of the move. All of the popular fair events will still take place however, including live music and the demo derby, and the fair will be free to help boost attendance. It takes place July 31st through August 2nd.
