Alleged Patient Abuse In St. Peter 05 May 14

An investigation at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter has found that a psychiatrist allegedly threatened a patient with electro-convulsive therapy. A report by the Minnesota Department of Human Services says that a vulnerable adult at the facility had a heated, and emotionally-charged exchange with a staff person last month, and the psychiatrist reportedly told the patient that their brain would be shocked. The doctor has apparently admitted to saying that, but denies telling the patient that they should be afraid. A substantiated finding of emotional abuse was listed in the report, but the psychiatrist has not been disqualified from providing direct-care services as a result of the maltreatment finding.
