Minnesota designated hitter Chris Colabello knocked in four runs as the Twins outslugged the Indians 10-7 in the rubber match of a three-game series at Progressive Field. Trevor Plouffe [[ PLOOF ]] drove in a run and scored twice, and Joe Mauer finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored as Minnesota evened its record at 3-and-3. Anthony Swarzak picked up the win in relief. Glen Perkins pitched a perfect ninth for his second save. Yan Gomes hit a two-run homer and Jason Kipnis knocked in three runs for the Indians, who fell to 3-and-3. Blake Wood suffered the loss. The Twins entertain Oakland today in Minneapolis for the home opener at Target Field.
Twins Home Opener Today
The Minnesota Twins home opener this afternoon will feature a special “Stand Up to Cancer” theme. As a show of support for Twins GM Terry Ryan and others impacted by cancer, players from the Twins and A’s are wearing SU2C patches. Team spokesman Kevin Smith says there will also be a tribute to honor those battling cancer during the game. Smith says this is the first time Major League Baseball has allowed a team to do this in the regular season “Take Me out to the Ballgame” will be performed in the 7th inning by Hope Kids, an organization that provides activities for children battling cancer.
