This is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota. Emergency management officials say that being prepared and staying alert is the key in planning for severe weather events such as tornadoes, lightning, flash floods, wind, hail, or heat waves. Part of being prepared is having an emergency disaster kit containing non-perishable food and water, a first aid kit, blankets, a flashlight and batteries, extra clothes, and other items. More information on severe weather preparedness can be found on the Minnesota Department of Public Safety website HERE. This Thursday is the statewide Tornado Drill Day as well. Warning systems will sound at 1:45 that afternoon, and again at 6:55pm.
